Blue Skies for Timberjacks After Touchdown by Cyclone

The Timberjacks wrapped up their preseason schedule with a trip to Hartland to face the Lake Country Cyclones at Hartland Arrowhead Field.  Even though preseason doesn't count, a 44-7 romp with a 369-134 yardage output still leaves a smile on your face.

The Cyclones opened the game with a 75 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  This would be the extent of the threat from the Cyclones until the last play of the game.

The Timberjacks answered with a 53 yard drive that ended with a Zak Shutte 5 yard run into the endzone.  A bad snap on the PAT left the score 7-6, Cyclones.

After a 3 and out with a total yardage of -2 yards by the Cyclones, the Timberjacks marched 38 yards and finished the drive with Randy Hohender plunging up the middle for a 3 yard touchdown run.  A Matt DeGrand extra point put the Timberjacks up 13-7.

The Cyclones fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Joe Klitzke promptly pounced on the pigskin.  The Timberjacks drove to the Cyclone 2 yard line, but a false start pushed them back to the seven.  The Timberjacks settled for a 23 yard Matt DeGrand field goal making the score 16-7 at the end of the 1st Quarter.

After another 3 and out to start the 2nd Quarter by the Cyclones, the Timberjacks marched 45 yards for another score, this time a 1 yard reverse by Zak Shutte.  The DeGrand PAT set the score at 23-7.

The Cyclones next drive resulted in 2 plays and a fumble.  The Timberjacks capitalized with a 41 yard drive.  Randy Hoheneder finished it off with a 3 yard touchdown run up the middle.  The DeGrand PAT made the score 30-7.

The Cyclones next possession gave them a chance to put some points on the board.  After moving the ball against the stout Jacks defense 19 yards, the Cyclones attempted a 53 yard field goal.  The kick was blocked by Neal Weddel carried downfield.  The Timberjacks returned the missed FG to their own 21.  This set up the biggest play of the game, an electrifying 79 yard run by Zak Shutte to paydirt.  The DeGrand PAT put the score at 37-7 heading into halftime.

The final score of the game came on the Timberjacks opening drive of the second half.  A 55 yard drive resulting in a 3 yard run by Randy Hoheneder up the middle.  The DeGrand PAT made the score 44-7.  The score also put the mercy rule into effect, generating a running clock for the remainder of the game.

The last gasp by the Cyclones came on the last play of the game, a 50 reception to get the Cyclones to the Timberjack 35, but no farther.

The final tallies for the game:
Timberjacks - 369 Yards Offense
Cyclones - 134 Yards Offense
Zak Shutte - 210 Yards, 3 Touchdowns
Randy Hoheneder - 66 Yards, 3 Touchdowns

The Timberjacks have subdued the Threat from Racine in a 34-19 thriller on the road!

The Threat opened the game with a long, consistent scoring drive, scoring on a bootleg run by QB Ben Adrian.  The Timberjacks promptly answered with a long, consistent scoring drive of their own, capped off with a 4 yard plunge by rookie Dennis Harris.

The Threats second drive was cut short when Aaron Hubert intercepted a tipped pass, giving the Timberjacks a short field at the Threat 35.  The Timberjacks quickly capitalized with a 20 yard TD pass from Dennis Harris to Zak Shutte, lifting the Timberjacks to a 13-7 lead early in the second quarter.

Racines HB Greg Sanders ran for a 35 yard TD.  Unfortunately for the Threat, the run was sprung by a block in the back at the point of attack by the Threat  the play was called back.  The Threat's drive was ended with a botched punt attempt resulting in an interception by rookie Mike Hansen.

The Threat were able to score just before the half on a 9 yard gallop by Greg Sanders.  A blocked extra point sent the teams to intermission tied at 13-13.

The Timberjacks set the tone for the second half of the contest with a punishing 70 yard march that chewed 11 minutes off the game clock.  Zak Shutte finished the drive with a 6 yard scamper into the end zone, making the score 20-13.

Early in the fourth, after a Timberjack punt and a short field at the Timberjacks 35, the Threat gave their last gasp.  An efficient march to the 1 yard line.  After failing to penetrate the front line of the Timberjacks goal line defense, the Threat scored on a 1 yard naked bootleg by quarterback Lukas Avila.  Another blocked extra point left the score at 20-19.

The Timberjacks answered back with another punishing 62-yard march that culminated in a 1 yard dive by Mike Hansen.  A two point conversion run by Zak Shutte effectively put the game out of reach with the Timberjacks up 28-19.

After a failed fourth down conversion on the Threat's next drive the Threat were calling timeouts in a desperate attempt to get the ball back one last time.  Zak Shutte broke through the line on his way to a 54 yard run to put the icing on the cake, and the Timberjacks up for the final of 34-19.
